thanks jack - many warm holiday wishes to you and all - indeed, JT said the same thing and, as it happened, Kirk rebuilt the clutch slave last fall - odds are that this caused the mc to fail - and yes, this was a painfully long email chain for what i am sure is a pretty basic item - eventually my beginner status will fade - thanks again - stephen

Subject: Re: [DeTomaso] Clutch MC

You really have three possibilities; if the pushrod is miraculously the correct length, you lucked out. The seized pin is still there and will have to be addressed sometime but for now, its 'fixed'. 2- If the rod is too long, you can make up a couple of washers the right thicknesses with hacksaw-slotted holes, back off the nuts holding the MC and slip the washer stacks onto the bolts under the MC, shimming the MC away from the plate. 3- If the rod is too short, you do start over.
Next thing- this has gone on so long, I can't remember what started your project. But if it was simply a leaking MC, know that hydraulic systems wear out as a group; individual parts seldom 'just fail' so if you haven't yet changed the slave cylinder and its a stocker, expect it to fail within a few months. This change is far easier and the recommended unit is stainless steel in a longer throw for more clutch separation. Finally, MC/slave failures are always caused by a failure to change clutch fluid yearly, so a word to everyone. Merry Christmas, Stephen- J DeRyke
