Call for help on a car in Missouri.  One of our local guys is eyeing a car
on Ebay, the listing is below.  Is there anyone in the area that knows the
car or is close enough to look at it.

This is an early '71 car.  Though they have some rare features, such as the
flat rear decklid, they also are more difficult to get parts for, and were
not nearly as well developed as the later cars.  This one also looks to have
a -1 ZF transmission with the rear mount.  Missouri is a long way away to
look at a car this time of year, and unless you can have someone in the know
check it thoroughly for you before putting your money down, you are taking a
VERY BIG chance.
 
Take your time, get a look at more cars locally.  Don't be in a hurry.  You
are welcome to come by my place in Covington and see my car as well if you
are in the area.

Without seeing the car in person it's very difficult to say--there are some
good points and some questionable ones.  I'm sending this to Mike Thomas for
his opinion, and with your permission I'd like to forward it to the entire
forum, if you haven't already done so.  Someone might either know the car,
or be close enough to take a look at it for you in person.
 
Good points:  refundable deposit, updated cooling system, runs well
(claimed)
 
Questionable:  a lot of original, 37-year-old parts, paint may be marginal,
interior (although listed as good) may have some tired spots (and I hear the
original seats are not too comfortable), no work done to the motor or
transmission?
 
One of the biggest questions, of course, is rust, as we discussed.  You'd
need to have someone in the know carefully look over all the potential
problem areas before buying.
 
Finally, do you like orange?  Do you like the big, black wing?  Those are
certainly subjective, but if you don't love it, don't buy it.  Waiting might
get you what you really want.  Besides, I've been quoted $10,000 just for a
good paint job, so changing it's color ain't cheap.

Hi Chris,
I talked to this guy about his car. He's getting a divorce and needs to sell
it. I couldn't find it this morning on eBay so I called him. He put the
listing under ford pantera, so unless you are looking for a ford you won't
find it. It ends on Saturday. If you would,,, check it out and let me know
what you think.
