[DeTomaso] 73 front bumper replacement?

Very good idea.
 
When I fixed my bumper I cut completely thru the internal metal  frame and 
the bumper material to remove the stretched metal.  When I completed the 
finishing, the finish was perfect. Three years  later I see three hairline cracks 
where I cut thru. I'll open these up and  put in the tape as you suggest. The 
actual smoothing/finishing/ painting is  easy.
 
If I had carefully cut the stretched metal out of the internal  frame with a 
cut off wheel and not cut all the way thru the bumper (DOH!), I  wouldn't have 
any cracks on the front to fix.
