And just connect the ground wire right to the chassis or splice into it and let it still go into the harness?

  Chris is right on.

  Find the ground for each lamp and ground it to the chassis of the car.

  This can be done by grinding a spot to bare metal, put a ring type crimp on the wire to be ground, use a hex head selfdrilling/selftapping screw to ground the ring, hit both side of the screw with a coat of paint or undercoat after testing the lights.

  The chassis is the best ground you can have. The headlamp buckets are not a good ground.
