Hi Thomas,

Yes, you can use a tig welder for body work. The thing with body work is
that you want a water tight seal. This is not an ez thing to do without a
lot of practice. Lifting of body filler can come from water getting in from
behind. You should think of the tig as an electric torch. I use it to heat
up a nut in a tight spot that a torch would be way to big to fit.

More reasons to buy a tig:

It's always cool to tell your welder friends "oh ya I have a tig".
You have a spot to fill in the shop.
You can fix things for the wife, girl friend, boy friend, or all of the
above...
You can never have too many tools.
When I retire I will be able too ___________________ .(fill in the blank)
Running a tig is just like electric Viagra.

Is a TIG-welder usable for minor body rust repairs?

My wifes Golf is suffering from rust around the rear wheel arches and
some other places, and I wonder if can motivate (to my self) getting a
TIG by using it to fix up the car?

Normally a MIG welder would be the choice, but if it is usable for this,
I might get a TIG instead. I have done similar repairs about 30 years
ago using oxy-acetylene, and I assume the TIG is is a bit like that,
although I assume it will run cooler, which is good for the end result.
