I have NEVER heard of an original halfshaft failing.   However, the stock 
(original) u-joints are known for being brittle, and also rusting internally, and 
thus snapping.   So the smart money is on reconditioning your stock 
driveshafts with new, modern, much stronger U-joints.

I believe the units that the vendors are selling are lightly modified Toyota 
4x4 truck units.   They are machined to fit the Pantera driveshaft and thus 
aren't the type of thing you can just buy over the counter from a parts store.
