I have an early tank in my car (given to me after my steel tank was condemned
for rust), and the top vent leaks something crazy too. On my car, it's
because it wasn't properly installed or sealed. I bought a replacement setup
from Bobby Byars but haven't installed it yet. It consists of a genuine Ford
tank vent with a rollover valve, steel mounting plate and a rubber gasket. I
think that simply drilling the rivets and removing the old one, and installing
the new one, should cure my leaking problem.
I don't know of an RTV-type sealant goo that can be used in a gasoline
environment. Anybody got suggestions for that?
Mike
