IR meters do not work well with shiny surfaces.

You will find out by playing with the IR temp gun that the temp will change
some by what the surface is you are shooting. A painted tank may read
different then a plated tank. There is some trial and error learning
involved.

I checked the swirl tank temperature with a new infrared no contact gauge.
Car gauge showed 160+, infrared hand held showed 209. I bought the hand held
gauge at Car Quest.
Car Quest model W89720 by Performance Tech. Well built, easy to use. I
think it reads up to about 945 degrees. Cost is $49.95
This is a must have tool for Mike Drew.
