 Wow they shouldn't be that far off.. make sure your not pointing it at anything shiny.. it's best if it wasn't a bare metal too since the infrared heat given off from a shiny metal is different then .. lets say.. a solid painted object. :)

I checked the swirl tank temperature with a new infrared no contact gauge.
Car gauge showed 160+, infrared hand held showed 209. I bought the hand held
gauge at Car Quest.

Car Quest model  W89720 by Performance Tech. Well built, easy to use. I
think it reads up to about 945 degrees. Cost is $49.95

 

This is a must have tool for Mike Drew.
