There have been attempts at before-and-after empirical evidence gathering, 
with little results to show for it.

The big problem with the vents is that they are perfectly flat, whereas the 
hood is comprised of compound curves.   So after you hack a pair of unnecessary 
holes in the hood, you then wind up warping the hood metal to accomodate the 
vents.

On some cars, they do look good, I'll admit.   But I'll take a clean, 
unmolested and perfectly functional hood any day.

Mike (spent hours in traffic this weekend, with a stock-style radiator, Hall 
pusher fans, no vents in the hood, and never came close to overheating....)
