Do two things now. First, disconnect the fuel line(s) and inlet nut-adapters
to the carb and verify there are no factory filters inside. The little factory
filters in Holley, Rochester and Carter 4-bbl carbs are too small so they
plug up rapidly with trash. Remove & throw away as your external unit is not only
much bigger, its a better filter.
Second, add your external fuel filter to the output line from the fuel tank,
not to the output line from the fuel pump. Mounted as gas-station mechanics
do, up near the carb, the filter becomes a source of intermittent bad running or
hot-start problems due to fuel boiling in it, which will cause much
diagnostic pain to locate. And in the worst case, if the case cracks (some are plastic,
some are glass, the best are metal), it holds 4- 6 ounces of hot gasoline
under pressure; in other words, its a bomb!
Good luck- J DeRyke

**************************************
Get
