Phil, I'm not familiar with the front-engine Porsches, and from the photos I
can't tell if these are made for 0.81" thick early rotors or later 1.25" thick
rotors. The early size is identical to 1971-1977 Pantera sizes and will fit.
In fact I've long used '70 Porsche 911 S alloy two-piston calipers on the back
of our Pantera, while the later 911 calipers (also known as '917-calipers')
will fit the post-1980 big-rotor GT-5 Panteras, with a fabricated bracket. This
should knock off maybe 30+ lbs of unsprung weight from these cars, as the
stock iron 3-piston Girlings are monstrous-heavy although effective.
Price seems great but be careful- all Porsche calipers I've examined use
plated mild-steel pistons which will rust in water-contaminated brake fluid (and
so will Girlings!). There are no known replacements- Porsche shops strip and
re-plate stock pistons when rust-pitted, at enormous cost. If these are pitted,
I'd call Roger Brottan and see if he can fabricate some new pistons from
billet stainless steel. If so and they're really cheap, go for it! Cheers- J Deryke
