setting valve lash in 3 engine positions was only valid for stock solid
lifter cams, but perhaps was not appropriate for a more aggressive grind

The method is also only for cold, static settings. As I have trouble
setting
any cam clearances w/engine off & cold that perform correctly when hot
and
running, I only set them 'approximately' cold, then set one head at a
time while
the engine is idling. It's messy with flying oil and smoke from oil on
the
headers, and after 8 valves will be uncomfortably hot. So after one
head, I shut
down for 30 minutes & do the second head when things are cooler. It
works on
any cam, and one need not guess at whats gonna happen when things warm
up. It
also gives a check on oiling at the rockers (boy, does it!) FWIW- J
