Are you saying the original Mangusta fender mounted solenoid is a Ford piece? We're talking about the one with the integral engine bump switch built into the top of it.

This is one of the easiest starter systems for anyone to ever check out. Your 
Ford fender mounted solenoid has a battery hot input  that is switched over to 
the other large output terminal by the key activation. So simply check for 
battery input, key activated output and the large wire to starter going hot when 
key is turned. If no small wire hot when key is turned then switch area could be 
a problem.  If large wire output is hot then short starter stud  connection or 
starter is an issue. Do not forget to check ground connection with a load meter.
