[DeTomaso] Nylocks in the Oil Pan

That's true to an extent. However, they will never loose the amount of grip
that a nylock does over time/useage. In any event nuts are cheap. If it
worries you, chuck 'em everytime. The steel types will give you more peace
of mind in either a one time use or multiple cycles...

The distorted thread style steel locknuts are also supposed to be a one time
use type nut. Each time that they are taken off and put back on they do lose
some of their grip.

Hey guys,

Personally, I wouldn't use nylocks on my lawn mower. The best locknuts
for any application involving oil and heat are the high temp aerospace type
nuts. These do not have any insert material like nylon, which softens with
heat. They are slightly crimped on the upside of the nut which creates the
necessary friction to prevent backing off. They maintain a grip in
temperatures way beyond what the oil can handle. They can be removed and
replaced several times with no loss in grip. If you tell me what size you
are talking about, I will send you the MS number and a couple of samples.
