I am trying to get the mental image here.   Are you saying that there is a 
big nut on the end of the M/C, opposite from the end that the pushrod activates? 
  Normally, the piston in the M/C is under spring tension, and is retained in 
the back by a snap ring.   So if (and it's a big if) you can open the M/C 
from the other end, be prepared for a spring to come shooting out--and also be 
ready for a big BLEAH mess of brake fluid.

Personally, I'd remove the thing before dismantling it, even though it's 
undeniably a big hassle....
