Hi Guys, I started to fill out the POCA Direction Survey, but I can¹t. Some of the questions are fine, and need to be asked. But some are designed to support one viewpoint over another. For example: 1. I fully support the direction the club is headed in under the new President and the progressive BOD members who support moving the club forward. O Absolutely, the change was long over due. I can already see the difference. O Not at all, please stop improving things and leave it alone. The responses can be interpreted thusly: A. Rock on, you are awesome, and everyone else is an idiot. B. I¹m stupid, and I like it that way. Seriously? How about? C. I support the direction the club is headed, but the President is alienating too many members and needs to tone down his message. D. Why not have a free form text field and let the members write what they want? It¹s not like we have billions of members and can¹t sort through their responses. Will. I took the survey, left about half the questions blank, and, funniest thing, pointed out in the comments section exactly what Will quoted about beating ones wife. Oh, also commented that perhaps it would help to proof read the survey before sending it out. Will, I agree completely with your evaluation of the survey, but I disagree with your corrective action. I believe this survey and the State of POCA email is the true MS. The members of POCA need to see him when he lets his guard down. This is the guy they elected President. If they like what he wrote in the survey and State, they should encourage and support him. Don't tone it down, crank it up!! Scott

Yes, there were too many that I thought simply couldn't be answered because there was NO balance to the answers, it was either I fully don't agree with you at all, or I think you need to fire everyone else so you can do what you want. I think the man is a closet narcissist. Why can't we have a middle of the road solution? Example. He says "he" wants an all-electronic newsletter. But what about those members who don't? Can't there be a happy medium where those who want electronic delivery can -have- electronic delivery and those who want a paper copy can get a paper copy? According to him... no. There can be no happy medium. You will conform or you will leave. Did this really happen? I only ask because I'm trying to understand the difference between who MS appears to be "in public" versus who he seemingly appears to be "in private" away from other eavesdroppers. Yours is not the first time I've heard this kind of thing, and if it's true it continues to speak to a disparity between the "kinder, gentler" POCA leadership and how MS actually treats people in person. Part of the trouble seems to be that if anyone disagrees with or even looks like the -might- disagree with him, they are put off immediately as an agitator. It's kind of sad really. O Absolutely, the change was long over due. I can already see the difference.

But what about
members who don't? Can't there be a happy medium where those who want electronic delivery can -have- electronic delivery and those who want a paper copy can get a paper copy? According to him... no. There can be no happy medium. You will conform or you will leave. Hi Guys,
I started to fill out the POCA Direction Survey, but I can't.
Some of the questions are fine, and need to be asked. But some are designed to support one viewpoint over another.
For example:
1. I fully support the direction the club is headed in under the new President and the progressive BOD members who support moving the club forward.
O Absolutely, the change was long over due. I can already see
difference.
O Not at all, please stop improving things and leave it alone.
The responses can be interpreted thusly:
A. Rock on, you are awesome, and everyone else is an idiot.
B. I'm stupid, and I like it that way.
Seriously?
How about?
C. I support the direction the club is headed, but the President is alienating too many members and needs to tone down his message.
D. Why not have a free form text field and let the members write what they want? It's not like we have billions of members and can't sort through their responses.
Will.

Alright, so we know the cars came with R-12 and then sometime in the not too distant past cars converted to R-134. Was there a -new- refrigerant talked about recently that is replacing R-134? Is it better? Is it worse? Can it work with R-12 or R134 components? Does anyone have the inside scoop on A/C systems today? I don't wish to complicate anything, I was mostly just wondering, because I thought I'd heard there was something new out there. I'm not actually looking to work on an A/C, it's just a question that came up. I know most folks have great luck with both the R12 and the R134a conversions. But if a person were starting out with a non-working stock system, is there a third option available and how does it compare to R12 and R134? I might be all wet here too, I just thought I'd heard there was something new out there. From what I understand the government will not ban the old refrigerant, they will just tax it to death, so you will want the new stuff.

FWIW, I think there is a new refrigerant used in Europe, but the real problem is, as usual none are compatible with the reclaiming systems that U.S shops are forced to use by the DOT. Most AC shops now have two- one for R-12 and a different one for r-134a. A third system would be too much expense and complication. Neither U.S system will handle Freeze-12 or the several propane based refrigerants, for instance so people who bought into those now cannot get their systems serviced at most shops. They all cross-contaminate each other. I think the lube-oils are incompatible, too. Or so I'm told. Asa Jay, Gases 12 and 134 are the only ones to use. Others exist and do not contribute to a proper functioning system and they seem to be there for those who really have a need to buck, recreate, thinking to improve the now working fine 134 gas systems or believe the stupid tv commercials that this new gas will have a liquid oxygen airstream emitting from their vents. Yes, changing over a 12 to 134 seems hard, it is basic and straightforward. Each diff gas needs its own mechanical system of different automotive components and tools-service equipment for us the mechanics. It is ok that all is set up around 134 now as it works and is priced well. I used to convert Benz 94 to 01 E-Class 430 and 500s to a 3 condenser system that put two 12" x 12" parallel flow condensers with two rear mounted sucker 12" fans dumping into the front leading fender wells after receiving ambient air pressured through the lower grill gills and a short 12" tall by 28+-wide low front mounted unit-original space-with two 12" fans. Then the large mechanical cooling fan and shroud were removed and a 16" electric sucker placed on. Benefits were a much colder system (almost too cold at 100+ speeds), quieter fan noise = four 12" and one 16" fans were quieter than the oem mechanical and dual electric fans, a cooler running engine and bay because majority of a/c heat rejection was being fanned out and laminar velocity sucked out of the fender wheels or below the bumper, quicker engine response because of it's missing monster alloy fan and what felt like more of a air weighted front grill area aerodynamic body loading because the front end became better planted with less yaw at speeds over 120 and at higher speeds the front became planted as if I had put on an air damn, all because now the bay had lower air pressure build up. So a lot of work, time and money too improve an already fine system. Well, that is what gear heads do. Take care, Jeff Jeff Cobb- I pad W-225-343-7525 C-225-907-4514 Jeff Cobb Auto Works 1316 S. I know most folks have great luck with both the R12 and the R134a conversions. But if a person were starting out with a non-working stock system, is there a third option available and how does it compare to R12 and R134? I might be all wet here too, I just thought I'd heard there was something new out there.

Will, thanks for your comments. I "tried" to fill out the survey not 5 minutes before I saw your post (after first applauding the return of the Forum). I too in good conscience could not complete the survey as the available responses on many of what should be more carefully crafted questions offered only two extreme positions. If the survey was truly meant to gage the memberships' response to the changes, it needs to be created by an unbiased source not looking to eke out a particular agenda. I chose to step back from the further involvement with the POCA BOD when my last term as VP ended because I do not have the time nor patience for the recent brand of "politics" and so forth. I still enjoy helping to keep our Chapter together and continuing to do the things we've always enjoyed, but have no interest in wading into POCA maelstrom.
I can only hope it comes out of its current reinvention to the benefit of the larger membership, and not solely to the few attempting to orchestrate the "new and improved" POCA.

Hi Guys,
I started to fill out the POCA Direction Survey, but I can¹t.
Some of the questions are fine, and need to be asked. But some are designed to support one viewpoint over another.
For example:
1. I fully support the direction the club is headed in under the new President and the progressive BOD members who support moving the club forward. O Absolutely, the change was long over due.
Will.

Having lived in Houston and Miami, Id have to say the weather is better over here. Humidity is lower, rains hard, but not for long. The weather resembles typical island weather with a hotter than normal sun, but with a cool afternoon breeze on most days. Fire orange sunsets are common. What about Houston? Are you still soggy?
