It says it still has the original Arriva tires, but that's not what they look like. They had different tread and sidewalls with "Goodyear" and "Arriva" in white letters. All us older car owners know that all original cars are undrivable. Especially the 73/74s with all the smog equipment. My 74 had 7,000 miles when purchased and ran like crapDid not idle well.Backfired at 100 MPH in 5th.Got 8 miles to the gallon.Brakes were terrible and had big time torque steer.Cracked Exhaust Manifolds. Over the first couple of years the car was modified for improved drivability. New intake and 600 CFM carburetor.New distributer. Removal of EGR valve and all the hoses and crap associated with the emissions. The Arriva tires were not the same diameters thus one had torque steer until I replaced them with Pirellis P7sKoni Shocks and spring spacers removedNew exhaust system.Modified the brake proportioning valve to stop reducing the pressure to the front calipers. Later one:Electronic Ignition.Quench Chamber heads.EURO GTS exhaust.New Camshaft that was not retarded 4 degrees like the stock cam was from Ford.Porterfield RS-4 brake pads17" WheelsAluminum IntakeAll New Suspension Bushings and ball joints.Adjustable upper A-Arms in the rear to get the 17" x 11" wheels to dial in the alignment to specs.New Radiator, cooling fans and all SS water pipes. In summary:I would not pay top dollar for an original car knowing that all the above needs to be done if you actually want to drive it and make it back home. I completely agree with you, John. OEM Panteras (earlies, too!) needed a LOT of 'personalization' or whatever you call it. I did all of the things John did and a bunch more. I once drove a completely stock '71 with Arriva belted-bias tires at an autocross, and it was the most skittish, ill-steering but very fast car I'd been in. Had we not already bought Judys '72-1/2 L, that driving experience might have convinced me to shop around for other brands. Fortunately the car we bought HAD been partly modifed and at the time, it was a typical 90% Italian car in which ALL needed the last 10% from the owner, so.....J DeRyke On Friday, May 23, 2025 at 09:44:10 AM PDT, JOHN NEAL via DeTomaso <detomaso@server.detomasolist.com> wrote: All us older car owners know that all original cars are undrivable. Why would anyone put Arrivas on a ’71? The owner of the car Jack drove had to be crazy. My ’71 came with Michelin XWX’s and my ’74 with Arrivas. I don’t think any of the pre-L cars came with Arrivas and I would agree changing the Michelins for Goodyears would greatly degrade the handling and ride qualities. When I got rid of the Arrivas (the rears barely made it past 10,000 miles), the car drove and rode much better. I once drove from the Shelby Meet in Oklahoma to Texas in the rain with Arriva Tires. Now that was a trip to remember. Shortly after It spun a wheel bearing on the drivers side. So, one new axel and (4) new bearings were the next repair. I had already replaced the u-joints. All on a car with less than 20,000 miles. All these low mileage cars scare me.What does the gas tank look like? The Brake System, Clutch system and the inside of the transaxel look like? My sons car had only 29,000 miles when we bought it, but had set for 10 years and the brake calipers, master cylinder, shocks, clutch hydraulics were all goners. The gas tank had racing gas in it and it looked brand new on the inside. In a message dated 5/23/2025 1:36:26 PM Central Daylight Time, jderyke@aol.com writes: I completely agree with you, John. I have 50 pictures of this car taken in July, 2009, documenting the VIN 6879, 135 miles on the speedometer, original paperwork and original Arrivas that look like they have never been used. These pics also show pics of the undercarriage and wheel wells with the tires off not shown in the Sotheby's listing. Owner sent them to me in 2021. (The tires are being sold with the car according to pictures in the Sotheby's site) BTW, I was the original owner of 6778, also in white. I used that car as my daily commuter in Chicago for 3 years and some 18,000 miles. In sun, rain, snow or ice, it was remarkably reliable and never once left me stranded. Somewhere along the way, it was restored and last I heard it had been flooded and totaled in the New York area in 2012's hurricane Sandy. Disappeared after that. I still hear regularly from the son of the guy who bought it from me. Wonderful memories. Jeff 6559 On Thu, May 22, 2025 at 12:40 PM Richard Greenblum < Richard@richardgreenblum.com> wrote:

My ’74 U.S. GTS was also a daily driver for years and it sucked in the rain until I ditched the Arrivas. It too was reliable until I started having issues with the points but only after a heavy rainstorm even with the car under a carport. Electronic ignition to care of that. Oddly enough, I never had issues with the 4300 carburetor until it developed a crack and started a fire that was able to put out with damage, ironically, only to my electronic ignition… Richard From: Jeff Detrich <jjdetrich@gmail.com> Sent: Friday, May 23, 2025 1:45 PM To: Richard Greenblum <Richard@richardgreenblum.com> Cc: De Tomaso List <detomaso@server.detomasolist.com> Subject: Re: [DeTomaso] Re: Unmodified Pantera! My 4300 did not want to open the secondary's air Louver on top. One could drive it with the air cleaner off and see the air louver did not open. One could open it by hand but it did not work on its own. When I swapped over to a HOLLEY the mileage jumped from 8 to 12. I have no clue what I did with the OEM 4300 or the intake. I still have all of the OEM parts, including a replacement 4300 and the cast iron intake it sat on, that came off my car except for the radiator and maybe OE plug wires and other small items like v-belts--boxed and shoved onto a big shelf in my garage. And like you, and everyone else, I've replaced more parts over the 50 years I've owned it than I can remember. I need to make a list of modifications and additions just to have.
