Re: [DeTomaso] Places to store and share car details...

Yep. I think that is WordPress. Which I just found out is available on my site. Sent from Earth. I had to change this subject to something appropriate. While the registry is naturally the place to store and share car and project data, there are (and should be) other website locations for this material. I have to ask, what happened to all our folders that we pain-stakeingly created on the POCA website? Are they now ONLY available to selected POCA members? Is all the material actually GONE? That would be really bad if true. I remember the 'good' POCA volunteers were trying hard to recover that data from an earlier "storage" incident (virus/crash/etc). I believe their efforts were not fully successful. OK so all people are no longer allowed access to the POCA website, so there is no point re-creating it under POCA control. At the point of suggesting some other web resource other than the registry, The PI Board has a place for such material also, and it has search functions, etc to support users. Chuck Melton (The DeTomaso Registry Guy) I kind of like the idea of using the Pantera International web site . I have always perused the stuff there daily , occasionally posting and lately it also has seemed like a refreshing refuge that should be enthusiastically supported . - Jim _______________________________________________ Detomaso Email List is not managed by POCA Posted emails must not exceed 1.5 Megabytes DeTomaso mailing list DeTomaso@server.detomasolist.com http://server.detomasolist.com/mailman/listinfo/detomaso To manage your subscription (change email address, unsubscribe, etc.) use the links above. This is the part I don't get. The PI site is a wonderful resource, has dominant market share for the Pantera community, and is more inclusive with many international owners and lots of people that don't want anything to do with POCA. It's archives of Pantera info and pictures are tremendous (it's been around for so long!) and I believe you can get access to all the historical info that was on the old Pantera International website. Furthermore, I'd say that the Forum software that it uses is better developed than the POCA forum software. And it is free for everyone. The only negative is that some people object to George Pence's occasional censorship - certainly no more egregious than the censorship on the POCA forum! So why doesn't POCA make a deal with George and cross-promote their sites? That would certainly promote the interests of the Pantera community better than the closed and exclusive approach they have now. Instead they are trying to develop the user base that uses their forum so that it has enough participation that it becomes becomes meaningful, especially with knowledgeable Pantera participants. From a business standpoint, it seems sort of futile - hubris at its best. As an aside, I might suggest to Chuck that he add a forum on his website specifically so that owners can document their cars in more detail than is done in the Registry. Make it open to anyone and everyone and it might get a large following, esp with its connection to the Registry. People would be inclined to use it since it has no political implications and it has a sense of permanence being part of the Registry. And it would be resource to add info to the Registry. The beauty is that it requires no effort on Chuck's part. The forum automatically manages the upload of pictures and all the owner information. This would be something that we all might contribute to with a small donation to help him cover the cost of hosting the data, the forum software can be had for free or for a nominal fee. Jeff 6559
