Re: [DeTomaso] NPC: Microsoft is sneaking the Windows 10 update onto PCs

Why do I feel like making a shortt joke here? Yes, I got the popup on one of my home machines and I usually just dismiss it until I have time to remove the KB update -again- (why does Microsoft keep overiding my wishes)... Except -this- time instead of dismissing it, it automatically scheduled the upgrade. I was like...WTF? I had to manually unschedule it. Now I'm fearful its automatically doing it to that home computer while I'm at work. Not cool. Asa Sent using Jedi Mind Tricks Larry Stock <larrys@panteraparts.com> wrote:
Thanks for the heads up Ken, All of our company clients computer in our network system just started updating too. We are stuck with Widows 7 apparently. I got my son a lap top for his racing data logger that automatically upgraded to windows 10 last year and he lost everything. I had to buy a second laptop with the old Windows program for him to use and trash the first one. Maybe Microsoft needs to give us a choice before giving us all this new technology for free. This is going to screw up manufactures all over the country today. Larry

And here I tried to upgrade one of my VM:s to win10, only to be told that the version of VMware Fusion I use does not support win10 😜

Not cool. If you don't want this to happen, you have to change the setting in
Widows Update to allow you to chose to install updates.

I agree, but then I am biased as I support the Solaris Kernel, now at Oracle, but with Sun since 1996, and using SunOS/Solaris since the mid 80:s 😊 Thomas

I loved the Sun hardware. I've been knee deep in the poop trying to resurrect an old Sparc Solaris box that crashed last week. Mirrors were bad and data hadn't been successfully written to tape for quite some time. I've supported most flavors of UNIX/LINUX. SunOS, Solaris, SCO UNIX/XENIX, AIX, A/UX, DG/UX, HP/UX, DYNIX, even old ATT 3B2's. On 5/20/2016 2:31 PM, thomas wrote:

No, OS-X is not Linux either. The old MacOS had no UNIX relation at all. The current OS-X was brought in from Next when Jobs returned to apple and is based on BSD/Mach, AFAIK. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mach_(kernel)

Sorry Terry, MacOS is definitely not Linux. Based on BSD/Mach AFAIK, so closer to Solaris than Linux, which I know you like, or at least used to like I still enjoy seeing clips from various Mission Controls and seeing Sun branded monitors and keyboards. Cheers, Thomas

Why do I feel like making a shortt joke here?
Yes, I got the popup on one of my home machines and I usually just
dismiss it until I have time to remove the KB update -again- (why does
Microsoft keep overiding my wishes)...
Except -this- time instead of dismissing it, it automatically scheduled
the upgrade. I was like...WTF? I had to manually unschedule it. Now
I'm fearful its automatically doing it to that home computer while I'm
at work. Not cool.

If you don't want this to happen, you have to change the setting in
Widows Update to allow you to chose to install updates.

At my last place of employment they finally got computerized and unfortunately did not take another employee and my advice on using Macs but went with PC's which I quickly dubbed Pieces of Crap! Was annoying when I had to shut (this may have changed now) each and everything down before it would completely shut down. Oh well, they were paying me for my time.
