And THAT is exactly why De Tomasos, Panteras in general will NEVER be taken seriously by the Motoring World because of the ill conceived "additions" that are foisted on a great many of these cars. Granted I'm not saying that the usual upgrades like cooling, electrical and fuel systems shouldn't be addressed but clam shell rear deck lids is going WAY TO FAR. Flame away, I think most of you guys have less that good taste when it come to your car mods. I can agree with Nancy that the less radically modified a Pantera is, the more value it will most likely bring in the future. And that the more of them that -are- modified, the less will be like what they were originally designed. Personally, I think the Pantera world will find the proper equilibrium on this topic. I also think the fact that modifying a Pantera is -not- taboo in the Pantera world (versus say the prancing horse people), is what makes the car so appealing to so many. There have been some radical mods to Panteras that I've not personally liked, but so what, it's not -my- car. I -can- however, even in those I didn't personally like, appreciate the work and mastery that went into many of them. This clamshell Yellow Pantera is one. There are a few points about it that aren't to my taste, but overall I think it's a well executed design mod; stands out from the crowd, is functional and probably provides a great deal of satisfaction to the owner. If I saw it at a car show I would tell the owner as much, that I think they did a great job. That's the beauty of these cars - we can do what we want to - or not. Problem is the folks that really would like everyone do what they do. Reminds me of a gent in the local Cobra group - he positively pouted when I told him we had added mufflers to our Daytona. He made it clear he liked loud. So? He can have loud. And Nancy can have original. I just like driving mine.

Beauty is in the eye of the eye of the beholder, as well as the amount one is willing to spend on a Pantera, stock or modified. All we have to do is look to the Barrett-Jackson sale of the Ring Brothers '71 Pantera (which was extensively modified), which fetched $300K (plus fees). -----Original Message----- From: DeTomaso [mailto:detomaso-bounces@server.detomasolist.com] On Behalf Of Asa Jay Laughton Sent: Sunday, August 28, 2016 9:47 AM To: detomaso@server.detomasolist.com Subject: Re: [DeTomaso] More of Steve's Yellow Car I can agree with Nancy that the less radically modified a Pantera is, the more value it will most likely bring in the future. Or another possibility is that the more cars are modded, the fewer visually stock ones remain. And those visually stock ones will become worth more. The Pantera suffers from the narrow-minded point of view that since it has an American V8 it's not "exotic" and therefore not desirable. There will always be a number of people who can get over that and enjoy the car for what it is. The classic Ferraris are now being bought up by wealthy collectors who never drive them, so there will more enthusiasts of more limited means who actually want to drive a car who will want them. You hit on some good points Jim. I consider the Pantera a muscle/exotic and am thankful it was created since I like both. My cousin is a Ferrari guy and says the trend is now towards the older models which feature a manual shift. Even 308's and 512's are experiencing a surge. My guess is collectors who occasionally drive them figured out they aren't race car drivers after all and want to be able to "feel and see" what gear it's in. That's what I would prefer over some tap,tap of the finger. What's old is new again? Plus much easier to bump start with a manual and clutch! However, if your Ferrari don't start I think you have something really wrong and prepare to get raked.
