Gas tank drain plug size?

All, I thought the gas tank drain plug was M22x1.5. Jack Pegoraro has a plug in his tank that is much smaller, something like 17.5 mm which makes me think it’s 3/8 NPT. Can anybody confirm the 1974 normal drain plug size, and actual OD of the plug? Mike Sent from my iPad

Mike, Your memory servs correct for early cars, U believe there were two sizes, later cars being 16mm x 1.5 Julian ________________________________ From: Mike Drew via DeTomaso <detomaso@server.detomasolist.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 12, 2025 4:01 PM To: De Tomaso Forum <detomaso@server.detomasolist.com> Subject: [DeTomaso] Gas tank drain plug size? Dear Mike, I measured my stock '74 gas tank drain plug with teflon on the threads and found a diameter of 22.5 mm. I was not able to measure the pitch with the plug in situ. I believe that it is a metric 22 mm diameter plug. Maybe my initial response got lost, I don't know how to access the list archives any longer? There are two sizes, both metric and both 1.5 thread pitch, one is 22mm the other 16mm. If Jack has something smaller than a 22mm, then there's a good chance it's 16mm!
