Because of agreements made with folks who submitted data to Chuck for his registry, POCA was unable to 'take over' his registry. Attempts were made to contact Chuck at the time with only minimal response. In turn, the POCA Board under Scott Martin started developing a new registry to which many inputs have been made. Unfortunately, I fear it has stalled out and will likely never be as complete as the registry Chuck assembled over many years of work. When you say 'take over', you mean POCA just assume responsibility, or OCA didn't offer enough money to make it attractive for Chuck to sell his years of hard work as a privateer effort? All, At JPL I was confronted with a problem that when a mission ended (along with funding) all the spacecraft data was trashed. Yep! No Money No Honey! After years of spacecraft subsystems (like NAV, Power, Thermal, Attitude Control, etc) asking for past missions’ data, I finally proposed to the Executive Committee to fund the saving of Mission Data. They agreed but then tasked me (Ech) to do it. So, I wrote software, to extract and preserve mission data for several missions. Deep Impact, Dawn, Spirit/Opportunity, Spitzer Telescope, Odyssey, Juno and MRO. A new team was formed (LSMD – Longterm Storage of Misson Data) to push all the Uplink and Downlink data to AWS and use ElasticSearch for users to mine any data they wanted from past missions. A new team was formed (LSMD – Longterm Storage of Misson Data) to push all the Uplink and Downlink data to AWS and use ElasticSearch for users to mine any data they wanted from past missions.
