Hi guys and ladies, Is it ok if I ask a question not about the POCA website or the BOD or copyrights etc.? (Sorry just kidding!) Anyway, I changed the engine oil and ZF lube this last weekend. I discovered that my oil drain plug had been seeping. It had a plastic washer on it so I changed to a copper one. I tightened it as tight as I dare but it still seeps a bit. Is there a torques spec for this somewhere? Any ideas on how to get a tight seal? Thanks, Dennis

My secret remedy for those little weeps is a judicious application of Rector Seal pipe thread compound. Accept no substitute. Mix it well before using as the carrier tends to separate from the binder over time. Not affected by petroleum products. Will seal even when seats or threads are less than perfect. I fought the dripping oil on pan plugs for years......no washer works on all.....I use a bead of rtv sealant under the head and on to the first few threads.. Works better for me, even on old old cars. Wow. I had the same problem. I feel like we¹re a bunch of old guys talking about losing bladder control or something. I tried a different approach. I welded an old ARP nut onto the pan. That way I can crank it down without worrying about stripping threads, plus it provides a smooth sealing surface. No - I don¹t torque it to 75 ft-lbs, but it¹s nice knowing I¹ll never strip the threads. I fought the dripping oil on pan plugs for years......no washer works on all.....I use a bead of rtv sealant under the head and on to the first few threads.. Works better for me, even on old old cars.

I once had to re-use a washer and had a tad of drippage until I could get a new one. You definitely don't want to crank the plug down too hard.
