On September 8, 1966 at 8:30 pm ET, a new series premiered on the NBC television network. Neither the network nor the studio had any confidence in it and Variety panned it as "an incredible and dreary mess of confusion and complexities." Never a ratings hit, it barely ran three seasons before cancellation, yet this unsuccessful show called Star Trek went on to become a cultural phenomenon whose influence continues to reverberate half a century later, not only in entertainment, but in its impact on science and technology. Saw the pilot while at Shepard AFB. Was in the day room and it looked like a junk show to me. Came back from overseas in Mar of 1970 and it was already canceled. Started watching it in reruns as alternative to the national news during Viet Nam. It grew on me. Have now seen them all at least 10 times. jerry knotts On 9/8/2016 10:56 AM, Larry - Ohio Time wrote:

Saw the pilot while at Shepard AFB. Was in the day room and it looked like a junk show to me. Came back from overseas in Mar of 1970 and it was already canceled. Started watching it in reruns as alternative to the national news during Viet Nam. It grew on me. Have now seen them all at least 10 times. jerry knotts On 9/8/2016 10:56 AM, Larry - Ohio Time wrote: On September 8, 1966 at 8:30 pm ET, a new series premiered on the NBC television network.
