Very hot here today with little shade available. We had a terrific reception at the Pantera French Connection paddock at 5:30 pm with champagne for all. About 25 cars including two Pantera Si (one spyder) and a Guara, several early euro pushbuttons, the ex-Roland Jackel Longchamp GTS prototype, but no Mangustas. Some terrific Swiss Gr4 replicas were there, one with Webers: Besides one driver, we also have one of our own, Jim Oddie, working as a corner worker! Gray Gregory had a blast during day and night practice yesterday; he was running at about 3 am and said he ran out of headlights because they were aimed too low. His first race started at 10 o'clock but there were two big wrecks which caused it to be red-flagged after only 9 minutes. He must be pretty annoyed but at least he didn't get collected in the wrecks. We are taking advantage of the downtime to hang out in a VIP enclosure and charge our phones which are both dead....now 11:07 pm and still T-shirt and shorts weather outside so glad for the A/C and free drinks! Thank you Mike and Lori for the updates and photos! Sounds like the event of a lifetime, I know we all wish we were there! Sent from Effie's iPad

I forgot to mention that one of the two Panteras racing this weekend pulled up and parked in the middle of the party. Apparently the owner is the guy who previously ran a very stock Pantera L model in previous years, very slowly. He now has a great looking Gr4 replica: The mechanics apparently don't know much about American engines, so they came to get schooled. Stephane Bergeron, one of the principals of Pantera French Connection, has built quite a few strong Pantera engines and spent a half hour laying some knowledge on them. The car ran for the mine minutes of the first race at what might politely be called a 'dignified' pace. It's running at least! Plateau 6 just started with a kick-ass Gr4 Pantera replica #1679 driven by former F1 a d porsche endurance racer Jochen Mass. He is fast! Time to leave the VIP enclosure (A/C isn't working anyway) to get close to the action. REAL close! Unfortunately the JM Pantera started off strong, came in for what looked like a scheduled pit stop, and I never saw it again. I don't know if it rejoined the track and broke out there, or retired from the pits. It looked and sounded fine when it came right past me on the way to their garage. Hopefully it's something minor. They go back out in about five hours. Mike Sent from my iPhone On Jul 9, 2016, at 23:48, Bjoern Flesland <bflesland@gmail.com> wrote:

The best part about this car is the air cleaner. Now I realize that I've been doing it wrong all along! Look closely at the third pic! That's a "Stealth" unit. I think Hall Pantera sold them for a while when the F-117 program was still at Groom Lake. They are extremely hard to find today. Most people literally stumble on them at swap meets. If you can find one, they have been known to have nearly unrestricted airflow up to the available venturi size of the carb or other throttle body. I can see this owner lost the original top and is substituting one of those K&N filter tops instead. That potentially could affect the airflow swirl to the venturis of the carb, it would be better if they could find an original top.
