I once drove from the Shelby Meet in Oklahoma to Texas in the rain with Arriva Tires. Now that was a trip to remember. Shortly after It spun a wheel bearing on the drivers side. So, one new axel and (4) new bearings were the next repair. I had already replaced the u-joints. All on a car with less than 20,000 miles. All these low mileage cars scare me.What does the gas tank look like? The Brake System, Clutch system and the inside of the transaxel look like? My sons car had only 29,000 miles when we bought it, but had set for 10 years and the brake calipers, master cylinder, shocks, clutch hydraulics were all goners. The gas tank had racing gas in it and it looked brand new on the inside. In a message dated 5/23/2025 1:36:26 PM Central Daylight Time, jderyke@aol.com writes: I completely agree with you, John. OEM Panteras (earlies, too!) needed a LOT of 'personalization' or whatever you call it. I did all of the things John did and a bunch more. I once drove a completely stock '71 with Arriva belted-bias tires at an autocross, and it was the most skittish, ill-steering but very fast car I'd been in. Had we not already bought Judys '72-1/2 L, that driving experience might have convinced me to shop around for other brands. Fortunately the car we bought HAD been partly modifed and at the time, it was a typical 90% Italian car in which ALL needed the last 10% from the owner, so.....J DeRyke On Friday, May 23, 2025 at 09:44:10 AM PDT, JOHN NEAL via DeTomaso <detomaso@server.detomasolist.com> wrote: All us older car owners know that all original cars are undrivable. Brakes were terrible and had big time torque steer. Cracked Exhaust Manifolds. Over the first couple of years the car was modified for improved drivability. New intake and 600 CFM carburetor. New distributer. Removal of EGR valve and all the hoses and crap associated with the emissions. The Arriva tires were not the same diameters thus one had torque steer until I replaced them with Pirellis P7s Koni Shocks and spring spacers removed New exhaust system. Modified the brake proportioning valve to stop reducing the pressure to the front calipers. Later one: Electronic Ignition. Quench Chamber heads. EURO GTS exhaust. New Camshaft that was not retarded 4 degrees like the stock cam was from Ford. Porterfield RS-4 brake pads 17" Wheels Aluminum Intake All New Suspension Bushings and ball joints. Adjustable upper A-Arms in the rear to get the 17" x 11" wheels to dial in the alignment to specs. New Radiator, cooling fans and all SS water pipes.
