All, I was very late to the Hagerty party. For more than 30 years I went through Heacock and was very satisfied. I would occasionally inquire with Hagerty and they were rather offensive—they had a 100% premium markup for any car they deemed to be modified. In my case, the presence of five-point harnesses and a fire extinguisher (both things that would tend to lower their financial exposure) triggered the doubling of my premiums, so I never went with them. Then last year, two things changed. I bought a concours collectible motorcycle (1979 Yamaha. RD400F Daytona Special) and completed the restoration of another highly collectible bike, a 1983 Kawasaki KZ1000R Superbike Replica. I tried adding them to my existing Heacock policy, but they would not give me anything but bare minimum liability coverage for them. That would leave me woefully exposed in the event of an at-fault accident. The more significant change was the introduction of Keith Euranius. He is a local agent for Hagerty, and has been named one of the top 20 agents in the USA. He does nothing else apart from serve as an agent for Hagerty, he earns his commission from them instead of the clients (that is, the price you pay is the same regardless of whether you go through him or through the drones at the call center), and he was able to do away with the surcharges for modifications. Hagerty offers coverages that no other companies offer, such as earthquake coverage (which is a thing here in California), and they are also very understanding and accommodating of cars that are stored offsite, as mine is occasionally. So I switched. I wound up paying a bit more than I was before in exchange for substantially more and better coverage. And in the event of a claim, or even if I just have a question, I have a GUY I can reach out to, who acts as my advocate, both before and after a claim. I actually had a broken windshield claim with Heacock on my GT350 while I was contemplating the switch. Keith acted like I was his client already, and he was able to find me a classic car glass specialist, somebody who ONLY works on classic cars, and made all the arrangements for me to get mine fixed, even though I was not yet a Hagerty client. And coincidentally this business was only ten minutes from my house. That sort of service is priceless. Heacock processed the claim with zero issues so I have no complaints about that. But still, I’m glad I switched. If you are an existing Hagerty customer anywhere in California or Texas, if you call him, he can be placed onto your policy at no additional cost to you, and then you can have your own guy to talk with also. Here is his website: [1]Home [2]rpminsurancegroup.com [3]favicon.ico Fair warning—he comes across very much like a used car salesman, and that can put people off. But he is completely sincere and highly committed to providing top-notch service, so if you can get past the sales patter, you will be highly satisfied going forward. Cheers! I have been a huge advocate of Hagerty for over 20 years but I'm now done. They have been bought by a much larger company, and everything (incl terms and personal touch) have changed and continue to change for the worse (for us). They're not the Hagerty of old... word to the wise. They are a little pricier than some of the other "collector car" insurance policies out there, but with Hagerty you can actually DRIVE your car! They WANT you to drive it, because it grows the hobby (and their potential market). But where Hagerty REALLY SHINES is when it comes to handling CLAIMS!!! Myself and several other friends have had very favorable claims experience with Hagerty. No nickel and diming me to death on properly repairing my car. Just a focus on getting it done correctly! You don't want to purchase a discount policy from some other insurer, and then discover when you have a claim why they were priced at a discount. Cheers!
