Whilst on the subject of tires; Someone on the PI forum recently paid a whopping $1,999 for 2 Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 335/35/17 tires as they are currently impossible to find and were advertised as from "Michelin's last lots of this size tire". From the eBay seller history it looks like 4 other people got suckered at that price too (retail is $560 per tire) as "last lot" in this case is last before the new batch is made! I have confirmation direct from Michelin the 335/35-17 Sport tire is still offered, albeit dealers are out of stock until a new run is complete and shipped. Michelin said check back in a couple weeks, so if you can wait there is new inventory on the way at some point in the not too distant future. Pantera GTS - A real Italian-American story. In the late 60s, the Ford Company gave to the Italian De Tomaso the production of a high performance, mid-engined car, for the US market.
The intent was to counter the fame of Corvette in the USA (General Motors production) and to take advantage of the successes achieved in Europe by the GT40 in both sales and track.
Thanks to the agreement, Tom Tjaarda together with De Tomaso drew the body, reworking the technical scheme already experienced with the Mangusta. Gianpaolo Dallara had the daunting task of revolutionizing the steel backbone chassis frame of the prototype, to a less expensive steel monocoque: it was a specific request made by Ford in order to ensure a more competitive price with the rivals of the era.
A Ford 351 Cleveland engine powered by a huge Holley carburetor constitutes the finishing touches, along with self-ventilated brake discs, ZF synchronized transmissions and limited-slip differential.
In the spring of '71 the public debut and the marketing.
Thanks to the 3D scan and then the RE of original wheels of the era, Marvic today manufactures and offers the full range of magnesium wheels. Reliable and perfect to let this Italian-American Muscle Car shine again they are in fact all available: the front wheels in 8"x 15" and both versions of rear wheels: 10 "x 15" long and short "ribs". Available sizes Front 8" x 15" Rear Post. 10" x 15" (short and long ribs) Available colors Marvic gold, Grey Aluminium. Other colors on request.
