Staying at Mad Dog's place in Fresno after the Silver State Classic Challenge and we watched this episode last night. Mike, you hit it on the head. I went to bed last night mulling over nearly all the same points. I thought the install of the Ecoboost actually looked pretty good, but butchering the decklid only to feed hot air from the engine into the intercooler was really dumb. It was obvious they had no idea of the airflow in a Pantera and that became a real detriment to their work. I agree, I don't think it will sell very well at all. If they had done something different with the intercooler so they didn't have to butcher the decklid, I think it might have been a much better and more appealing build. However, I still think even then, it's not going to get near what they were thinking. I was actually disappointed in the show overall. Asa Jay Quoting Mike Drew via DeTomaso <detomaso@server.detomasolist.com>:
All,
Just saw the second show.
What is hilarious is that they didn't make it a sealed air intake from the roof to the inter cooler. It's basically just a piece of metal tacked to the decklid. These morons didn't even consider that airflow goes from the bottom past the engine and out the top, so their scoop is designed to capture superheated air and duct it to the intercooler!!!!!
They said they thought somebody would pay $200-300k for it. Yet as auction time drew near perhaps they started to realize how dumb they were. They finished it late, understandable enough. They could always have entered it in the next BJ auction? But at the end of the show, there is no talk of that. Instead there is whimpering, saying he has $100k tied up in it and begging somebody to call him and buy it.
Jeff--I dare you to drive down there in your stock-looking white L model, act interested, then ask them what it would take to return it to stock! Tell them as a stock car it might be worth $70-75k but as it stands, all the modifications have hurt the value by the cost it will take to undo them!
It's probably worth $30-40k if the stock engine, and all other parts are included? :)
I love the brakes though. Nice job with that Scott. :)
I grudgingly admit that the power train swap appears to have been largely successful and it certainly is innovative. I seriously doubt they saved an ounce of weight when you factor in the weight of all the turbos, intercooler, electronics, massive wheels etc so in fact it's probably heavier than stock too.
In the beginning they were claiming 600 hp was the target. Notice how quiet things got at the end? No boasting of big power numbers. You only need 200 hp to do donuts so that doesn't prove anything. It would be interesting to learn what they actually achieved--other than wrecking what would have been a lovely Pantera had it been restored, or even modified to GT5 or GT5-S or something....

Finally watched it. I think the air scoop for the inter cooler is overkill. The could use an air to water heat exchanger and cycle coolant to the nose. Ken __________________________________________________________________
Getting cool air to the engine seems to be a difficult issue for a Pantera if you don't want to alter the looks. Has anyone seen a solution that doesn't look like an after thought? Ken __________________________________________________________________

Since Richard liked the Nike interior disaster on the Ring Brothers
