I plumbed it in via the heater hoses. Some Cobra Mustangs have a special lower radiator hose. I use an electric heater valve which is mounted by the a/c compressor and has 4 ports so there is constant water flow going through the oil/water exchanger. All the Ford cars we have use a similar exchanger, the unit I used added 2" to the length of oil filter, the long Motorcraft FL1A style filter still fits well. The important parts to me is getting the engine oil to temp in cooler climates with a 10 qt pan and not having to mess about with oil hoses, thermostat, location, etc on an external cooler. With my oil/coolant heat exchanger, the oil temp eventually matches the coolant temp on highway drives. Unfortunately, that is closer to 190 degrees. I believe that Rousch did testing on optimum oil temps and horsepower creation. The magic number I recall John Christian sharing was 220 degrees, not 230.
The other advantage to a heat exchanger is that when starting a cold engine the coolant helps raise oil temps quicker.
