
All, Chasing a noisy-ish 408 roller Windsor build from Bluepoint. My son's car.....runs very strong, but at idle the thing randomly clacks from #4 or #8 primarily. No monster cam lifts (mid .500's)....no monster compression ratios (high 9s?). Good strong street build. Bluepoint sent him a new set of (same) lifters and an upgraded set of Comp roller rockers. The new parts didn't cure anything. Lash is set at 3/4 turn tight from zero lash. ( I ran my roller 331 in the Goose at 1/4 turn from zero and never a noise like we're seeing here! Std volume oil pump!) Responses across the web include "Fords are just noisy" which I say BS, otherwise every 5.0 Mustang from 75-94 would be rattling down the road! Every 94-95 351W based van....same thing......so I call BS to this! Oil pressure is rock solid at just sub 50psi. This is at 800-900rpm idle....which I believe is also unreasonable.....unless this is the engine builder's way of compensating for poor lifters???? I know that #4 and #8 are last on the oil food chain.....and potentially could be suffering......but have never heard of this on production engines. What sez the crowd???
